truck measuring up with eyes on it

Bigger Trucks on the road, with some eye opening features

Ben Sleep - Oct 2, 2023

With an increase of the overall width from 2.50 to 2.55 metres for new trucks, provided an extra number of safety features are in place. It is likely we are expected to see the rollout of electric and hydrogen trucks from Tesla and alike.

After much back and forth with government bodies, a slight yet significant change is coming for trucking widths in Australia.

Many have had concerns this 2.5 cms on each side of the truck will push the Aussie roads widths to much and bring on a landslide of road safety issues, but with the growing pressures of EV and the ready products from Tesla and alike jumping at the gate trying to unload(pun intended). The government bodies have taken to the gate with and angle grinder now letting these larger vehicle in!

How will this measure up? With time we will see, but the more technologically moves, the more we can innovate so I am personally excited but the idea of future fuel types.  Funny enough these larger vehicles will have better visibility, WHAT? Yes that’s right thanks to their safety features includes front and kerb view mirrors offering front-left corner visibility, external camera monitor systems for blind spot blind and blind spot sensors, and cross-view mirrors to see in front of bonneted vehicles.

Buses and trailers sizes will remain unchanged in regulated sizes. What else does this mean? I love to hear your thoughts? It appears now is the  time to move the trucking industry into HD we can no longer have a blind spot we must see in full these other innovations. Let's keep moving forwards into the new!
